Pet Dental Referrals

At EKVR we are passionate about dentistry and the huge impact that improved dental health can have for pets. Periodontal disease has been linked to kidney, liver, lung and heart disease, as well as diabetes and arthritis. Advances in human oral care over the last century have been key to our increased life expectancy; and the same is true of our pets.

Pet Dental X-rays

Over 60% of dental disease is found below the gum line and is not possible to detect with visual examination alone. Dental x-rays are an essential tool that allow us to see below the gum line and fully assess the tooth roots. We often find pets who have extra, deformed or diseases tooth roots which hugely impacts an oral health assessment. The majority of pets do not show any signs of dental disease or pain under it is incredibly severe. Fully assessing the oral cavity as proactively as possible is key to ensure pet health. Radiographs allow us to identify and address painful issues such as fractures, tooth abscesses, broken or missing roots and bone or soft tissue tumours.

Dental x-rays have been commonplace in human dentistry for decades but are a relatively new technology in the veterinary sector. Many veterinary practices don't have dental radiography available but they are an essential basis to every dental assessment and treatment that we perform.
